1.Who we are & scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Android application Usage Tracker (package identifier com.usagetracker.app, referred to in this policy as the “App”), published on Google Play by Novarush (“we”, “us”, “our”). It explains what information the App processes, where that information lives, and what rights you have over it. It covers every user of the App, regardless of country, and it forms part of the agreement between you and us together with the App’s Terms & Conditions.
The single most important fact about Usage Tracker is its architecture: the App is completely offline. It does not request the Android INTERNET permission, which means that at the operating-system level it is technically incapable of sending any data over the network — to us, to Google, to advertisers, or to anyone else. Everything described in this policy happens on your device and stays on your device. This is not a marketing claim; it is a verifiable property of the App, and you (or any reviewer) can confirm it in Android Settings → Apps → Usage Tracker → Permissions, where no network permission is listed.
2.Privacy at a glance
Here is the short version of this policy, for readers who do not want to go through every section. Each point below is expanded with full detail in the sections that follow, and nothing in the summary overrides the detailed text.
We collect
Nothing. There is no data collection of any kind.
Transmission
Impossible — the App has no internet permission.
Where data lives
In app-private storage on your device only.
Ads & trackers
None. No ad SDKs, no analytics, no trackers.
Accounts
Not required. The App works without registration.
Deletion
In-app clear-data option, or simply uninstall.
3.Information the App processes (all on your device)
To show you meaningful statistics, the App reads and processes the following categories of information. Every one of them is processed and stored locally; none of them ever leaves your device.
- App usage events and durations. Using the Android system service
UsageStatsManager/UsageEvents, the App reads information that Android itself records about how apps on your phone are used: which apps move to the foreground, when, for how long, and how often. This is the same category of system data that Android’s built-in “Digital Wellbeing” features use. - Installed app labels and icons. The App reads the display name and icon of the apps installed on your device so that statistics can be shown with recognisable names and pictures instead of raw package identifiers. On Android 11 and newer this is limited to launcher-visible apps, which is why the App declares a standard
<queries>element rather than requesting broad package visibility. - Your in-app preferences. Choices you make inside the App — such as theme, whether system apps are shown, and display filters — are saved locally so the App remembers them between sessions.
The App does not process: your name, email address, phone number, contacts, messages, photos, location, advertising identifiers, device serial numbers, or anything that could identify you personally. It also does not read the content of what you do inside other apps — only that those apps were used and for roughly how long, as reported by the operating system.
Honest limitation: usage figures are derived from Android’s system reporting. They are approximate by nature and may differ slightly from what other tools show. We treat them as informational, not as an exact measurement.
4.Permissions the App uses (and the ones it deliberately does not)
4.1 Usage access — PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
This is the App’s core capability and its only sensitive permission. “Usage access” is a special Android permission that cannot be granted with a normal tap; you must explicitly enable it in system settings (the App will take you to the right screen: Settings → Apps → Usage Tracker → Permissions → Usage access, or its device equivalent). Without it the App cannot read the system usage data that powers all statistics. With it, the App can read — locally — the usage events described in Section 3.
We use this permission for one purpose only: to build the usage statistics you see in the App. We do not use it to profile you, and because there is no network capability, we cannot transmit anything we read. You can revoke the permission at any time in the same settings screen; the App will then show its permission gate and stop updating statistics until you re-enable it. Android may also automatically revoke unused permissions, which is expected system behaviour and not an error.
4.2 File export via the system file picker (Storage Access Framework)
The App requests no storage permission. When you choose to export your statistics as a CSV file, Android’s standard system file picker opens and you decide whether and where the file is saved. Only the file you explicitly chose to create is written, exactly at the location you picked. Nothing is read from your storage, and nothing is written without your explicit action.
4.3 Permissions we deliberately do not request
INTERNET— not requested; the App cannot go online. This single omission is the foundation of the entire privacy model.- Location, camera, microphone, contacts, SMS, call log, phone state — not requested.
- Accessibility services — not requested and never used to inspect other apps’ content.
- Exact alarms, background location, body sensors — not requested.
5.What we never do
This section is a set of firm commitments, each backed by the App’s offline design rather than by trust:
- We do not collect personal data. There is no sign-up, no account system, and no server that could receive data.
- We do not share or sell data. There is no data to share or sell, no advertising partners, no data brokers, and no affiliate network.
- We do not include third-party SDKs. The App contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking libraries of any kind. Its dependencies are limited to Android platform APIs and open-source Android Jetpack components that operate locally.
- We do not serve ads. The App is ad-free, and it has no mechanism to download or display ads.
- We do not fingerprint your device. No device identifiers, advertising IDs, or hardware signatures are read, stored, or derived.
- We do not access the content of other apps. Usage access reveals foreground durations, never screen content, messages, or activity inside those apps.
6.Data storage, security & retention
All processed data is stored in a local database (Room/SQLite) inside the App’s private storage area. Android’s sandbox ensures that other apps cannot read this storage. Backup of the App’s data to cloud services is explicitly disabled in the App’s manifest (android:allowBackup="false"), so your usage history is never included in Google’s device backup either. The App’s scheduled background work runs entirely on-device and performs local database maintenance only — it performs no network operations because none are possible.
Data is retained on your device only for as long as you keep the App installed, subject to the automatic retention window you can manage in Settings (older history beyond the retention period is pruned automatically to save space). You have two deletion paths: (1) use the in-app Settings options to clear selected data or delete the entire database, or (2) uninstall the App, which permanently removes the database and every trace of the App’s data from your device. Because no copies exist anywhere else, deletion is immediate and complete — there is no server-side copy that could survive.
The security of locally stored data also depends on your device. We recommend enabling a screen lock (PIN, pattern, or biometric) on your device; Android will then encrypt app data at rest on modern devices and prevent other people who pick up your phone from opening the App.
7.CSV export — your choice, your control
The App lets you export the statistics you see into a CSV file, for example to open it in a spreadsheet. The export flow uses Android’s Storage Access Framework: the system file picker opens, you choose the destination and file name, and the App writes the file exactly there. The export contains the same on-device usage statistics shown in the App (app names, durations, launch counts, and dates). No data other than that file’s content is involved, no copy is kept inside the App beyond your existing database, and nothing is uploaded anywhere, as always. Once exported, the file is entirely under your control; if you share it with someone, that is your decision and this policy no longer applies to copies you have handed to others.
8.Children’s privacy
The App is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age under your local law). More importantly, the question of children’s data is structurally resolved: the App does not collect data from anyone, adult or child, because it has no ability to collect data at all. No personal information about any user — of any age — is gathered, stored outside the device, or transmitted. If a child uses the App on a family device, the only records created are the same on-device usage statistics described in Section 3, which stay in the App’s private storage and can be removed at any time by uninstalling. Parents or guardians who prefer that a child not use the App can simply remove it from the device.
9.Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data protection laws — for example the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or other local statutes. Typical statutory rights include access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to object to processing.
For Usage Tracker these rights are, in practice, already fully in your hands: the data the App processes never reaches us, so we hold no copies that we could access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. You exercise every right directly on your device — you can view all data in the App, export it as CSV, and delete everything at any time via Settings or uninstall. If you still wish to contact us about privacy — to ask a question, report a concern, or exercise a right you believe involves us — write to mknovarush@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
10.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example when the law changes, when Google Play introduces new disclosure requirements, or when a new version of the App changes something relevant. The current version will always be published at the URL you used to reach this page, with the “Last updated” date at the top changed accordingly. Material changes will be summarised clearly, and for significant updates we may also highlight the change in the App’s release notes on Google Play. Because the App is offline and collects nothing, the practical scope of this policy is expected to remain stable; any change that would ever introduce data collection would be clearly announced in advance and would require an App update and, where required, a renewed legal basis.
